Artist's Description
One of the gates featured in my book "Gates of Savannah" (History Press).
There seems to be an infinite variety of shades of green. Except for the brickwork and a few ceramic pots, it could be over-whelming. It doesn’t appear neglected, just lushly extravagant in it’s growth…the sort of ‘secret garden’ any child could play in to their heart’s content, and an adult would find themselves peacefully cocooned away from the surrounding noise and
bustle of the city.
The gas lantern design seems fairly common to the period. The delicate lacy fretwork on top belies the large size of the piece.
About Merana Cadorette
I am just an old grandmother soul that has been creating since I first got a chubby baby fist on a crayon. For decades, I have worked in a variety of media, in many sizes, and in several themes. Great mastery of watercolor! Depth and textures are excellent and hard to achieve with this medium: however, your image has all of these great elements!
Merana Cadorette replied:
thank you, that is quite a compliment. Much appreciated

Your paintings are fantastic & I'm especially enjoying your Gates of Savannah collection. It isn't easy to create a mostly green painting & have it turn out as beautiful as you have done here. This is my favorite of the day in Women Painters group discussion. L
