Description
This is a newcomer to the historic district in Savannah, Georgia as it was built in 1926. The gate enters into a garden sheltered by the house, enclosed by the carriage house out back, and hallway connecting the two.
The wheel in the top panel appears a few other places about town, not only in gates, but as a protection to a few round ground floor windows. Although this painting the gate appears tall, and the columns fairly substantial, it is strictly the angle I worked from. In reality, it is a friendly human-scaled entrance into a well-proportioned sun-kissed retreat.
