Artist's Description
Built in 1840, and designed by Charles Cluskey in the Greek Revival style. The Sorrel House is unique in Savannah in its symmetry of its 4 porches. Both General William T. Sherman and General Robert E. Lee have ‘guested’ here.
When I started, this was undergoing renovations. I prefer the look of the layers of peeling paint on the wrought iron hinting at the years of changing owners and architectural trends. It is a gate without a section to close out the world, and as such, bears a certain uniqueness and charm.
The house is included on standard walking tours as well as ghost tours...as for the latter, it has been featured on several television shows exploring ghosts and other things that go bump in the night. Evidently, the traces of the original "haint blue" paint on the upper rear porch stucco ceiling didn’t do much good.
Included in my "Gates of Savannah" book and my "Scenes of Savannah" book.

I don't exactly have a 'chosen art form'. I began with hand-built figures, added watercolors, then acrylics. Along the way, I have tried marble, bronze-casting... I...
