On November 18, 1920, Juliette Gordon Low, leader of the Girls Scouts of America, rode in a Farman biplane. When I painted this, all I had was a black and white image of Juliette climbing into the cockpit of a Farman biplane, and the story of her going over Headquarters in New York to drop a message from the plane. I went through Farman aircraft images trying to match the plane, and then looked up a vintage aerial shot of NYC from this time and composed the watercolor you see here.
Since then, I have found University of South Carolina has video clips of this event, mostly from a ground camera on Roosevelt Field on Long Island.
I am just an old grandmother soul that has been creating since I first got a chubby baby fist on a crayon. For decades, I have worked in a variety of media, in many sizes, and in several themes. Some may reoccur and occasionally mingle with others. My artwork sprawls from impressionist over to, but never reaching, absolute realism. It reflects my life, mental state and interests. I adore dramatic color and very often lean towards a blue/orange dynamic. Skies are rarely calm, buildings should look old and lived in, and people should make you wish you could meet them.
