Description
On November 18, 1920, Juliette Gordon Low, leader of the Girls Scouts of America, rode in a Farman biplane. When I painted this, all I had was a black and white image of Juliette climbing into the cockpit of a Farman biplane, and the story of her going over Headquarters in New York to drop a message from the plane. I went through Farman aircraft images trying to match the plane, and then looked up a vintage aerial shot of NYC from this time and composed the watercolor you see here.
Since then, I have found University of South Carolina has video clips of this event, mostly from a ground camera on Roosevelt Field on Long Island.

What an interesting story from history and a uplifting moment in more ways than one captured, beautiful watercolor work, the background is so well done to give the feeling of being in the air above NYC. Love the plane and your palette LF
