Artist's Description
I made the painting nine years ago...it is hard to believe the baby is now taller than the great grandmother cuddling him in this picture.
The image speaks to me of the continuity of family. My mother-in-law is now ninety four. When she held her first great grandchild, she realized he might never remember her, but she cuddled him trying to transmit a lifetime of love and support into that moment.
Happily for both, they have created more moments and precious memories to share.
This painting won a "Special Recognition" in LightSpaceTime's All Women's Exhibit, 2021; and Judge's Choice in Portrait, Northern Lights Gallery, 2022
About Merana Cadorette
I am just an old grandmother soul that has been creating since I first got a chubby baby fist on a crayon. For decades, I have worked in a variety of media, in many sizes, and in several themes. Some may reoccur and occasionally mingle with others. My artwork sprawls from impressionist over to, but never reaching, absolute realism. It reflects my life, mental state and interests. I adore dramatic color and very often lean towards a blue/orange dynamic. Skies are rarely calm, buildings should look old and lived in, and people should make you wish you could meet them. I don't exactly have a 'chosen art form'. I began with hand-built figures, added watercolors, then acrylics. Along the way, I have tried marble, bronze-casting... I...

Fabulous painting Merana! I hope the baby has a copy of your work! My grandson’s great-grandmother died when he was 3 years old, but due to geography and the COVID shutdown, he only got to spend time with her 7 or 8 times before she died. Now. 7 years old, at least once a month, usually more, with no pictures around him of her, he will wake up crying and sobbing “I miss Great Mom-Mom!” We forget that such deep, brief memories can have such an impact at such early ages! This piece of art truly touched me! f
