Description
I used to go to airshows, and often brought my watercolors with me. I would find a shady spot over by the vintage, Golden Age era planes and spend a few pleasant hours on an aviation plein air watercolor.
I had many delightful conversations because of this, often by men who were bemused to see a female enjoying painting aircraft.
The Gee Bee seen here is a race plane, built for speed, and not stability. With its tubby fuselage and stubby wings, it reminded some aviators of a bumble bee...hence the color scheme. They won several famous air races in the early 1930's, but were touchy and dangerous to fly.
