Zut, alors indeed! You do have a point. On the whole, France is overrun with bakeries (and for excellent reasons, as you know) and I have no doubt that there may have been one in my neighborhood, but if so, it was not close by and don't forget, I had just acquired a shiny new infant and, not being used to having one around, he took up pretty much all of my time so I didn't go gallivanting looking for fattening bread and pastries. In fact, I needed to lose a few pounds because I didn't have sufficient funds to purchase fat clothes.

Merana Cadorette replied:

But the walking everywhere means you can eat more! Thank you for the kind words.

It is, but you can stop drooling because sadly, I could only enjoy the bakery's delights for a short time. My husband and I arrived three days after our wedding and I found out I was pregnant a day later. I had severe 'morning' sickness all day, every day throughout my pregnancy and by the time my son was born and I could eat again without suffering any unpleasant consequences, we had moved to another section of Marseille. A section without a bakery, I might add! I have always considered that a cruel and despicable quirk of fate

Merana Cadorette replied:

Zut, alors!!! How is it possible to have a section without a bakery!?!

Thank you very much, Merana! You've hit a sore spot with this cozy painting and your talk about tables being set up for the first customers. Your scene shows pretty much what a pleasure it is to eat outdoors overseas. I used to live in Marseille right over one of the best bakeries in town. Fresh croissants almost every morning. It doesn't get better than that.

Merana Cadorette replied:

I am drooling with envy! Right over a French bakery!?! C'est tres magnifique!!!

About Merana Cadorette

Merana Cadorette

I am just an old grandmother soul that has been creating since I first got a chubby baby fist on a crayon. For decades, I have worked in a variety of media, in many sizes, and in several themes. Some may reoccur and occasionally mingle with others. My artwork sprawls from impressionist over to, but never reaching, absolute realism. It reflects my life, mental state and interests. I adore dramatic color and very often lean towards a blue/orange dynamic. Skies are rarely calm, buildings should look old and lived in, and people should make you wish you could meet them. I don't exactly have a 'chosen art form'. I began with hand-built figures, added watercolors, then acrylics. Along the way, I have tried marble, bronze-casting... I...
