Artist's Description

One of the gates featured in my book "Gates of Savannah" (History Press).
The property is the Thomas-Levy House, built in 1867, remodeled in 1896 into Second
Empire Baroque style. As with many buildings in Savannah, residence is above,
business is on ground floor (street level).
A simple side gate leads into the narrow passage between two buildings. After I had
completed the watercolor, I stopped by to speak with the owners. To my pleasant
surprise, I discovered they not only owned the property, but had designed the gate
themselves, salvaging bits of antique ironwork. The final
assemblage constructed by Virginia and John Duncan, circa 1974, is so well done it
appears perfectly suited to the time the home was built over one hundred year before. I
like the casting work and built-in flower boxes, in which the blossoms change
seasonally

About Merana Cadorette

Merana Cadorette

I am just an old grandmother soul that has been creating since I first got a chubby baby fist on a crayon. For decades, I have worked in a variety of media, in many sizes, and in several themes. Some may reoccur and occasionally mingle with others. My artwork sprawls from impressionist over to, but never reaching, absolute realism. It reflects my life, mental state and interests. I adore dramatic color and very often lean towards a blue/orange dynamic. Skies are rarely calm, buildings should look old and lived in, and people should make you wish you could meet them. I don't exactly have a 'chosen art form'. I began with hand-built figures, added watercolors, then acrylics. Along the way, I have tried marble, bronze-casting... I...
